The Suburban Skating School is happy to announce its first-ever ‘Skating School Field Days’ series!

While we wait with great anticipation for the opportunity to resume on-ice classes, we wanted to provide our previous and future participants a chance to work with our skating directors and instructors in a unique and socially-distant format off the ice. A variety of topics and curriculum will be utilized based on age and skill level, with skaters being divided accordingly. Along with activities for our skaters, we will also be including parent components to keep you feeling informed and engaged in your child’s growth as a skater.

Participant topics include:

  • Dynamic warm-up and recovery
  • Agility, balance, flexibility and coordination
  • Proper falling and recovery
  • Skate tying
  • Off-ice edges and turns
  • Off-ice jumps
  • Movement (musical interpretation)
  • Character development and self-confidence
  • Practice planning and goal setting

Parent topics include:

  • Introduction to U.S Figure Skating/USA Hockey (avenues of skating)
  • Being a supportive skating parent
  • Appropriate attire and proper equipment, fit and care
  • Long-term athlete development
  • Joining a club and expectations
  • Financial management of skating

Our Suburban Skating School Field Days will be offered at our Suburban Ice Rochester location! We will also be offering optional off-ice jump training sessions in the week following the field day camp.
